Chairperson of the Global Aafia Movement, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, expressed her gratitude for the Sindh Assembly’s unanimous approval of a resolution advocating for the release and return of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, the nation’s daughter. She thanked not only the Jamaat-e-Islami but also members of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and independent members for their support in passing the resolution. Dr. Siddiqui stated that the Sindh Assembly’s unanimous endorsement of the resolution reflects the sentiments of the nation regarding Aafia’s plight. She expressed astonishment and disappointment at the silence of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the heir of the Bhutto political legacy, following the government’s letter concerning Aafia’s situation. Dr. Siddiqui opined that had Benazir Bhutto been alive, Aafia’s unjust imprisonment would not have persisted for so long, and she would likely be with her family in Pakistan today. In a speech after presenting the resolution, member Muhammad Farooq highlighted Pakistan’s past contributions to U.S. interests, stating that the safe withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan was made possible with Pakistan’s assistance.
