The government, city administration, and global partners are joining forces to eradicate polio from Karachi, aiming for 100% coverage and ensuring that no child misses the vital polio vaccination. On Wednesday, Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hasan Naqvi, visited Natha Khan Shah Faisal Town to assess the ongoing polio vaccination campaign. During his visit, he met with polio teams, received briefings from relevant officers, and made key decisions to enhance the campaign’s effectiveness. He underscored the importance of ensuring that every child receives polio drops, framing it as a national priority. Commissioner Naqvi emphasized the need for daily oversight, instructing all Deputy Commissioners to visit their respective districts regularly to monitor the campaign’s progress and submit daily reports to his office. To strengthen community engagement, he announced that polio workers would be recruited from local areas, leveraging their familiarity with the community to boost the campaign’s effectiveness. Special attention will be directed towards 378 children in UC Natha Khan Shah Faisal Town who missed their vaccinations, including 146 who actively refused. To address this, Commissioner Naqvi directed the formation of polio support teams comprising elected representatives, community leaders, and officials from various government departments. These teams will focus on persuading hesitant families to allow their children to receive the polio vaccine. “The success of this campaign hinges on achieving 100% coverage,” Commissioner Naqvi stated, reiterating the urgency of ensuring that no child misses out on polio drops.
