Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) CEO, Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, has instructed the management to install two new butterfly valves to enhance the city’s water control system starting October 21.
The project will take three days to complete. During this time, repairs will also be carried out on two main water lines near University Road and the Old Sabzi Mandi, which were affected by the Red Line project.
According to KW&SC spokesperson, new valves will be installed on 66-inch pipelines at Al-Hilal Society and near Chase-Up Market on Kashmir Road to strengthen water distribution. Due to this work, areas including Chanesar Town and Jinnah Town will experience partial water supply disruption, while other areas like Keamari, Clifton, Saddar, Gulshan Town, Liaquatabad, and Nazimabad will also face supply issues.
The spokesperson added that the new valve control system will improve water management across the city and resolve leakage issues on University Road and in the Saddar area. Previously, leak repairs required a shutdown at the Dhabeji pumping station, cutting off water supply to the entire city.
With the new system, city-wide shutdowns will no longer be necessary. During the three-day repair work, the city will face a daily shortage of 200 MGD (million gallons per day), and citizens are urged to store water and use it cautiously to avoid any inconvenience.
