ISLAMABAD – Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Rubina Khalid has announced a whooping increase in the amount of the Benazir Kafalat quarterly instalment for beneficiaries.

He made the announcement during his visit to Benazir Nashonuma Center at Sindh Government Hospital PIB Colony in Karachi. She announced that the cash assistance amount will be increased to Rs13,500 from next year as currently it stands at Rs10,500 per quarter.

During the visit, the chairperson interacted with the women beneficiaries and expressed satisfaction on availability of adequate services.

Khalid said that 9.3 million families are currently registered with the BISP and this number is expected to reach 10 million by next year.

Benazir Kafaalat Program is one of the main initiatives taken by the government under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) to provide relief to maginalised segment of society.

The initiative, which was launched in 2008, has emerged as the largest single cash transfer programme in Pakistan’s history. It has both short and long-term objectives.

The short term objective of the initiative is to protect marginalised people from negative effects of higher inflation, food crisis and poor economic growth.

The long term objectives of program is to eradicate extreme and chronic poverty, along with women empowerment, as set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
