In a review meeting chaired by IG Sindh Ghulam NabiMemon, the performance and benefits of body-worn cameras were discussed at the Central Police Office in Karachi. The meeting included DIGs from various departments, including Headquarters, IT, and Traffic. During the meeting, the DIG of IT and Traffic provided a detailed briefing on the functionality and usage of body-worn cameras. The Sindh Police currently possesses nearly 800 body-worn cameras, with 500 in use by the Traffic Police and 300 by operational police personnel.

According to the DIG Traffic, these cameras have facilitated public-friendly policing over the past two years in various sectors. They are employed during traffic violations, polio campaigns, and other law enforcement activities. Traffic officers are required to use body-worn cameras when issuing tickets, ensuring that every violation is recorded. Before issuing a ticket, officers inform citizens about the recording on the body-worn camera, leading to a noticeable reduction in complaints from both citizens and the traffic police staff.

The cameras have proven useful in monitoring police attendance, maintaining discipline during service, assessing officers’ behavior with citizens, and documenting criminal activities. IG Sindh emphasized the necessity of using technology for better policing and a peaceful society. He instructed the Traffic Police to continue their operations against drivers without licenses, speeding, tinted windows, unauthorized police lights, and fake number plates.

Additionally, IG Sindh announced that more body-worn cameras would be provided to the Karachi Traffic Police.
