LAHORE – The government of Punjab on Thursday enforced Section 144 across the region including provincial capital Lahore, prohibiting political gatherings, rallies, sit-ins, and protests for a duration of two days.

These restrictions will be effective till October 19, with the provincial government focusing on maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of lives and property as student continue to protest.

Lahore alleged college rape case remains a hot topic as protests continue in Punjab. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz suggested political motivations behind the allegations and stated that those spreading unrest would be held accountable. Despite arrest of some protesters, students are still demanding anti-harassment committees in schools and justice for victims.

Protests have spread to other cities, with accusations of the administration trying to cover up the incident by deleting CCTV footage.
