ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that SCO has the potential to drive socio-economic progress, enhance regional peace and stability and to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
He stated this in his opening remarks at the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad.
The premier, who is presiding over the meeting, in his opening remarks welcomed the delegates.
He said this meeting is another testament to the strength of our ties and collaboration among the diverse nations.
PM Shehbaz stressed this opportunity should be used to exchange ideas, share best practices and forge concrete action plans that will benefit our economies and our societies.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed the optimism for a wonderful outcomes that will hopefully emerge from today’s valuable discussion and in-depth deliberations.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar received the delegates at the Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad, followed by a group photo of the participating leaders.
The SCO member states are being represented by prime ministers of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as well as Minister for Industry and Trade of Iran and External Affairs Minister of India.
Premier of State Council of China Li Qiang will represent his country.
The prime minister of mongolia as observer state and deputy chairman of the cabinet of ministers and foreign minister of Turkmenistan as Special Guest will also participate in the meeting.
The leadership of the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization has arrived in Islamabad to attend the meeting.
The SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting will discuss ongoing cooperation in fields of economy, trade, environment and socio-cultural linkages and review performance of the Organization.
On Tuesday night, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin arrived in Islamabad to attend SCO summit.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif warmly welcomed the Russian Prime Minister at airport.
Meanwhile, Iranian Minister for Industry and Trade, Syed Mohammad Atabek has also arrived in Islamabad to attend the SCO meeting.
Additional Secretary for Afghanistan and West Asia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Naseem Warriach, warmly welcomed the distinguished guest at Nur Khan air base.
