LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formed a high-level committee to investigate the alleged rape of female student of a private college in Gulberg area of Lahore.

The committee will complete its investigations and present a report to her within 48 hours.

According to the notification, the six-member committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary of Punjab, with members including the Secretary of Home Affairs, the Advocate General of Punjab, the Secretary of Higher Education, the Secretary of Special Education, and the Secretary of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education.

Officials have indicated that the committee may include additional members for assistance. The committee will gather evidence related to the alleged assault, including statements from the college’s students, faculty, and administration.

Authorities noted that the committee will review all aspects, including the college administration’s immediate response and how the police handled the situation.

A day earlier, a large number of students protested outside the campus of the leading private college over rape of their fellow by a security guard. They also blocked the Canal Road and demanded a swift action against the suspect and others involved in it.

However, police have been denying receiving any complaint about the sexual assault, stating that they had checked with college administration, hospitals and other places but found nothing about it.
