PM visits conference’s venue, praises CDA & ICT

 

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday visited the Jinnah Convention Centre—venue for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit scheduled for October 15 & 16—and reviewed the ongoing preparations for the successful conference.

The PM was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister AhsanIqbal, Information and Broadcasting Minister AttaullahTarar, and other senior officials including Foreign Secretary AmnaBaloch, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali NasirRizvi, Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Mohammad Ali Randhawa, etc.

During the visit, the prime minister was briefed by the CDA Chairman and officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior on the summit’s arrangements.

Expressing his satisfaction, PM Shehbaz directed the officials to make sure the public is least affected by excessive security arrangements or road closure. He was informed that alternate traffic plans during the summit days have already been shared with the public through social media, newspapers and TV channels.

The prime minister commended the workers of the CDA and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration for taking pains in beautifying the roads and decorating the state buildings ahead of the SCO summit.

The capital city wears a new look these days with lights, eye-catching portraits and banners reflecting the colours of the SCO member countries’ flags— China, Russia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Iran and Belarus.

The federal government has declared public holiday for three days (October 14-16) from Monday till Wednesday and the police and security forces are on high alert to deal with any law and order situation during these days.

IGP Syed Ali NasirRizvi, in this regard presided over a high-level meeting Saturday to discuss security arrangements for the SCO Summit in Islamabad.

The meeting was attended by DIG Islamabad Syed Ali Raza, DIG Headquarters Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanveer, DIG Security Jawad Tariq, and other senior police officials. IG Islamabad received a briefing on security arrangements and directed officers to implement effective security measures.

On the occasion, IG emphasized that security of the delegation must be strengthened, by effectively utilizing the modern systems of the Safe City Islamabad. Well-prepared police teams will be deployed at all entry and exit points of the high-security zone.

Search and combing operations will continue in the residential areas surrounding the Red Zone. During the delegation’s movement, all major roads will be completely closed, and alternative routes will be provided at various intersections, keeping in mind the convenience of the public.
