A crucial meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Dadu, aimed at addressing the implementation of the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013. The gathering brought together key stakeholders, including district government officials, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community leaders, to discuss collaborative efforts in curbing child marriages in the province.
The meeting was led by Tahseen Fatima, Secretary of the Human Rights Department, along with Iqbal Detho, Chairman of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, and Deputy Commissioner Dadu, Mukhtiar Abro.
The discussions centered around enforcing the law, raising awareness within communities, and ensuring greater cooperation between government bodies and civil society. Tahseen Fatima highlighted the need for all stakeholders to work together for effective implementation, stating, “All stakeholders must work together to implement the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act in the province.” She stressed the importance of monitoring mechanisms, along with providing legal and psychological support for victims.
Representatives from law enforcement, the education sector, and healthcare professionals were also present, all aligning towards the goal of safeguarding children’s rights.
The meeting emphasized the urgency of ending child marriage in Dadu and beyond, with the Human Rights Department expressing its commitment to sustained efforts in the fight against this practice. The event concluded with a call for strengthening the law’s enforcement and ensuring that future initiatives protect the well-being of Sindh’s children through a unified and collaborative approach.
