Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari claimed that the government has the numbers but it decided to consult all the political parties for constitutional amendments.
“A detailed meeting of the parliamentary committee was held, during which the PPP presented its draft,” said Bilawal Bhutto while talking to the reporters in Islamabad on Friday.
He said that the government also briefed the committee on consultations and proposals made with lawyers’ organizations. The positions of the lawyers’ groups regarding the constitutional court and the appointment process for judges were discussed, along with the government’s own proposals.
Bilawal said the opposition parties also commented on the constitutional amendment.
The PPP chairman said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed a commitment to work together with the PPP to prepare a consensus draft. He expressed hope for meaningful dialogue with the opposition parties, emphasizing the government’s commitment as well. T
he Law Minister clarified that the numbers for a two-thirds majority are intact, but despite this, the government wanted to consult with all parties.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized that the government seeks consensus rather than pushing its own agenda. He expressed the intention to make every effort to achieve a mutually agreed draft with all parties. He also noted that if consensus is not reached, the government’s stance of not wasting time would be justified.
