Third meeting of the committee established by the Government of Sindh under the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) was convened at the Karachi headquarters, chaired by Director General Abdul Rasheed Solangi. During this session, the committee focused on formulating policies related to the inspection and approval processes for various construction matters.
The Director General emphasized that the Sindh government is committed to ensuring 100% compliance with building regulations to prevent illegal constructions. He acknowledged the challenges faced by allottees, particularly ordinary citizens regarding their building plans, stating that all approvals would require the committee’s consent and strict adherence to timelines for either approval or rejection. Solangi elaborated that the committee will thoroughly review all aspects of residential and commercial building plans for both private and public sale projects, including plazas, bungalows, and open plots.
This comprehensive review process will encompass everything from the approval of building and structural plans to the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for advertising and selling. So far, the committee has approved 80 cases, aiming to provide better and more accessible facilities for citizens and builders while closing legal loopholes. This approach is expected to boost confidence among allottees and create more investment opportunities within the construction industry.
In line with the zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions set forth by Provincial Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani, the SBCA has been actively conducting operations over the past six months, resulting in the demolition of numerous illegal structures. To ensure a permanent solution, legal actions are underway, including bans on the sale and purchase of illegal constructions in cooperation with district administration and prosecutions against those involved.
The Chairman of the Builders and Developers Association (ABAD), Hassan Bakhshi, has praised the serious efforts made by the Sindh government and the SBCA, considering it a positive step for the growth and progress of the construction industry.
