Following the death of her sister Noorjehan in April 2023, Madhubala, the last remaining elephant from the herd of African elephants that arrived in Karachi’s Safari Park from Tanzania in 2009, is set to join fellow elephants Malika and Sonia by November 2024. The transition follows extensive efforts to ensure Madhubala’s health and well-being.
The UAE Consul General, Dr. Bakheet Ateeq Alremeithi, played a vital role by securing urgent medical treatment for Madhubala on two separate occasions. Dr. Alremeithi also visited the park personally to assess the elephants’ condition and demonstrate the UAE’s commitment to animal welfare in Pakistan. In a symbolic gesture, he planted a tree during his visit, further emphasizing the UAE’s support for conservation efforts. Madhubala’s reunion with Malika and Sonia is expected to be a significant step in her recovery and well-being, as she prepares to integrate into the larger herd in her new environment at the Safari Park.
