ISLAMABAD – The government announced termination of existing Power Purchase Agreements with five Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and will bring power tariff down in the coming months.
PM Shehbaz Sharif made announcement about end of agreements with five Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to save the national treasury Rs411 billion and provide annual relief of 60 billion rupees to consumers.
He commended power producers for putting national interest over personal gain. Hub Power Company Limited, Pakistan’s largest Independent Power Producer (IPP) was among those who negotiated settlement agreement with PML-N led government.
Energy Minister Leghari confirmed that electricity prices will come down by Rs10 per unit, projecting that these changes could be implemented within a year.
The government’s efforts aim to stabilize the economy while ensuring that the benefits reach the average consumer, marking a proactive step toward more affordable energy solutions in Pakistan.

The latest power unit for first 100 units is Rs. 22. For usage between 101 and 200 units, the price increases to over Rs. 36. The cost rises further to Rs. 39 for 300 units, and over Rs40 for 301-400 units.
For consumption over 500, consumers need to pay Rs44. and for using over 700 units, the charge is Rs. 65 and above.
