In a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine, the Sindh Assembly observed Palestine Solidarity Day on Monday, with its building illuminated to mark the occasion. The event saw participation from Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Syed AwaisQadir Shah, MPA Muhammad Farooq, former MNAs Muhammad Hussain Mehanti and Asadullah Bhutto, as well as former MPA YounusBarai.

Addressing the gathering, Speaker Syed AwaisQadir Shah called on the United Nations to take immediate action against the atrocities being committed in Palestine and urged for a ceasefire. “The Sindh Provincial Assembly stands in complete solidarity with Palestine,” Shah declared. He condemned Israel’s ongoing violence, stating, “For over a year, Israel has been committing genocide against Palestinians, reducing Gaza to rubble. Over 42,000 people, including men, women, and innocent children, have lost their lives in relentless bombings and inhumane acts.” Shah criticized international bodies for their inaction, particularly the United Nations, which he accused of standing by as a spectator.

“The global conscience must awaken to the brutality of the Zionist state,” he emphasized, urging the world to acknowledge the plight of the Palestinian people. He further remarked that the Palestinian cause is not limited to a single country or party but is an issue for the entire Muslim world. “Today, all political parties are united against Israeli oppression and stand with the oppressed people of Palestine. The struggle for Palestinian freedom will continue until their liberation,” Shah affirmed. Former MNA Muhammad Hussain

Mehanti and MPA Muhammad Farooq Farhan also spoke, condemning the human rights violations in Palestine. They expressed disappointment over the response of the international community, including the United Nations, in addressing the ongoing crisis. “The role of the global conscience and institutions like the United Nations has been disheartening,” they added, calling for more concrete actions to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.
