UK delegation engages Sindh on education reforms

A delegation of top university leaders and academicians from the UK, led by HE Rt Hon Lord Paul Boateng CVO from the House of Lords, met with Speaker Syed AwaisQadir Shah at the Provincial Assembly of Sindh to explore opportunities for educational collaboration.

The group included Richard Grose, Dean of Queen Mary, University of London; Professor Wendy Thomson CBE, Vice Chancellor of the University of London; Dr. Tony Degazon, Regional Manager for City & Guilds; and Pete Taylor, COO of the University of Greenwich.

The meeting focused on potential student exchange programs aimed at boosting learning experiences for students in Sindh. Speaker Syed AwaisQadir Shah, alongside Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah and Secretary Muhammad Abbas Baloch, expressed keen interest in fostering these opportunities. Hon Lord Paul Boateng praised the Speaker’s dedication to youth development and education.

Discussions also touched on modernizing vocational training in Sindh. Proposals were made for teacher training programs that would introduce an updated curriculum and advanced technology to vocational institutions in the province.

Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah emphasized the full backing of his department for any future initiatives. Following the meeting, the delegation was given a tour of the historic Provincial Assembly buildings, where Speaker Shah honored them with traditional Sindhi Ajrak and caps. The visiting academicians expressed their gratitude for the Speaker’s hospitality and ongoing support, marking the occasion as a step toward stronger educational ties between the UK and Sindh.
