IN the light of the dire situation in Gaza, the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehmanon Friday signified a crucial step toward a unified Pakistani response. Their decision to observe a “Day of Solidarity with Palestine” on October 7 is not just symbolic; it is an essential message of support to the Palestinian people enduring unimaginable suffering.

Pakistan has long maintained a clear and steadfast position on the Palestinian issue. Our history is replete with advocacy for their rights and calls for international justice. Given the current brutality unfolding in Gaza, it is imperative that we send a unified message to the Palestinian people, reaffirming our solidarity in their struggle for dignity and rights. The announced All Parties Conference (APC) is an excellent opportunity for our political leaders to gather and articulate a collective stance. It is vital that this forum includes representatives from both the government and the opposition. Political parties must rise above partisan differences, recognizing that the plight of Palestinians transcends domestic politics. Government leaders should actively engage opposition parties, urging them to participate in this crucial dialogue. A united front will amplify our message and demonstrate the strength of our national resolve. The situation in Gaza, characterized by horrific violence and civilian casualties, is not an isolated issue. The situation now threatens to spill over into neighbouring countries, including Lebanon. The assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah only underscores the precariousness of the current geopolitical landscape. This escalating conflict poses a direct threat not only to the stability of the Middle East but to global peace and security. In these challenging times, it is essential for the Muslim Ummah and influential world capitals to step up and play their roles in defusing tensions. The potential for a full-blown war in the region looms large and decisive action is required to avert catastrophe.
