Consulate of Italy in Karachi marked the 2024 Italian Language Week by hosting a special puppet performance by renowned Italian artist Pamela Mastrorosa.

Held at Habitt City in collaboration with Paramount Books Pvt. Ltd., the event was designed to introduce school children to Italian culture and language. Sponsored by Gerry’s Group and with Turkish Airlines as the travel partner, the celebration aimed to spark interest in the rich heritage of Italy. Italian is one of the world’s most studied languages, especially for culture and tourism, with about 85 million speakers globally.

The Consul General of Italy in Karachi, Danilo Giurdanella, welcomed students and teachers from various schools, expressing his appreciation for their enthusiasm in learning more about Italy’s language and traditions. The event featured puppeteers Pamela Mastrorosa and Franck Le Lay, who captivated the children with their interactive performance. The young audience also enjoyed a delicious breakfast while engaging with the artists. As part of the celebration, the Consulate distributed a special edition of “A Thousand Wonders,” a book by Geronimo Stilton, the beloved children’s character. The book takes readers on an adventure through Italy, highlighting the country’s vibrant culture, history, and countless wonders.

The Italian Language Week 2024, scheduled for October, is part of a global initiative celebrated by Italian embassies and cultural institutions. This year’s theme, “Italian and the Book: the World between the Lines,” will explore the relationship between language and literature, emphasizing the book’s role in preserving and sharing Italian cultural heritage and identity.
