Sindh Building Control Authority’s (SBCA) decision to seal former president Dr. ArifAlvi’s dental clinic in Karachi has been challenged in the Sindh High Court (SHC). On Friday, a two-judge bench of the court heard the petition filed by Dr. Alvi’s wife, SaminaAlvi, and son, AwabAlvi, against the closure of Alvi Dental Clinic, located in the Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society (SMCHS). The court has issued notices to the provincial government, SBCA, and the healthcare commission, seeking their replies by October 7. The SBCA sealed the clinic, citing complaints about illegal commercial activities being carried out in a residential area near Sharea Faisal.

The clinic was established on a residential plot, which they deemed illegal. The authority is actively taking action against commercial operations in residential areas within private societies. The petitioners, represented by Barrister Ali Tahir, argued that the sealing of the clinic was politically motivated. “Dr. ArifAlvi is being harassed solely on political grounds,” the lawyer claimed. The petition also highlighted that the clinic had been in operation for many years, yet no prior notice was served before it was sealed.
