RAWALPINDI – Administration in twin cities – Rawalpindi and Islamabad – has imposed Section 144 as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced protest against proposed constitutional amendments tomorrow, October 4.
Red Zone in Islamabad and several roads in both areas have been blocked by placing containers by the authorities, causing trouble for students and employees of different offices due to massive traffic jam on roads.
Containers have also been placed at Faizabad on the Express Highway, causing long queues of vehicles.
Is There a Holiday in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on October 4?
Amid the prevailing situation, it is expected that administration in twin cities would announced a holiday for schools and offices in order to ensure safety of citizens, including students.
The administration used to issue an official notification if it declares a local holiday. However, it has not issued any such notification till filing of this story.
Section 144 in Lahore
The Punjab government on Thursday imposed Section 144 in the provincial capital, banning all kinds of political gatherings and protests.
The provincial Home Department has issued a notification at the request of the city administration, which has cited security threats.
A Home Department spokesperson said that the restrictions have been imposed for six days, started from October 3 to October 8. He said that political gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, protests, and all such activities will not be allowed in the city during this period.
He said that the decision has been made to maintain law and order situation in the city as there are security threats. He said that political gatherings could be safe target for terrorists.
Earlier, the Section 144 was imposed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Mianwali and Faisalabad.
