LAHORE – The Punjab government on Thursday imposed Section 144 in the provincial capital, banning all kinds of political gatherings and protests.

The provincial Home Department has issued a notification at the request of the city administration, which has cited security threats.

A Home Department spokesperson said that the restrictions have been imposed for six days, started from October 3 to October 8. He said that political gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, protests, and all such activities will not be allowed in the city during this period.

He said that the decision has been made to maintain law and order situation in the city as there are security threats. He said that political gatherings could be safe target for terrorists.

Earlier, the Section 144 was imposed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Mianwali and Faisalabad.

The development comes as the PTI has announced protests in various cities against the proposed constitutional amendments.
