Yousaf Hussain takes over as OICCI president

Yousaf Hussain, President and CEO of Faysal Bank Ltd., has been elected as the new President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) for the 2024-2026 term. The announcement was made during OICCI’s Extraordinary General Meeting held on Monday, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the Chamber’s leadership.

Along with Hussain, Jason Avancena, Managing Director and CEO of Nestle Pakistan Ltd., has been named Senior Vice President, while Syed Ali Akbar, Managing Director and CEO of Pakistan Tobacco Company (Pvt) Ltd., will serve as Vice President. The newly elected Managing Committee includes key leaders from banking, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing sectors, reinforcing OICCI’s influential role in shaping Pakistan’s economic landscape.

The newly formed Managing Committee for the 2024-2026 term consists of notable figures: Yousaf Hussain, Faysal Bank Ltd, Jason Avancena, Nestle Pakistan Ltd, Syed Ali Akbar, Pakistan Tobacco Company (Pvt) Ltd, AamirHafeez Ibrahim, Pakistan Mobile Communications Ltd. (Jazz), Ahmed Khan Bozai, Citibank NA, Pakistan, Asif Ahmad, IBM Italia SPA, Farheen Salman Amir, Lipton Pakistan Ltd, Fahd K Chinoy, Pakistan Cables Ltd, HafsaShamsie, Roche Pakistan Ltd, Javed Ghulam Mohammad, Martin Dow Marker Ltd, M AdilKhattak, Attock Refinery, Muhammad Jawaid Iqbal, United Bank Ltd. Addressing the members, Yousaf Hussain acknowledged the complex economic challenges Pakistan faces but emphasized the opportunities for reform and growth. “Pakistan today stands at a critical crossroads. While inflation is easing and we’re seeing a slight recovery in GDP growth, the country still faces structural challenges. However, these challenges also represent opportunities for pushing necessary reforms, driving innovation, and fostering a business environment that promotes sustainable development,” he stated.

 

Outgoing President Rehan  Shaikh, who will continue serving as an ex-officio member of the Managing Committee, highlighted OICCI’s crucial role in collaborating with the government to address economic issues. “In the 2023-2024 term, OICCI actively promoted Pakistan’s investment potential to foreign delegations, showcasing the country as a key destination for FDI. The focus remains on unlocking Pakistan’s future economic prospects,” Shaikh remarked. With over 25 years of professional experience, Yousaf Hussain brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
