The third day of the Test match between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur could not be played due to substandard facilities, the local Indian media reported on Monday.

On the first day of the Test match in Kanpur, play was halted after 35.5 overs due to rain, and the match could not proceed on the second day either. It has now been reported that despite no rain in Kanpur on Sunday, play was still not possible on the third day of the Test.

According to the Indian media, the reason for the lack of play on the second and third days is attributed to the drainage system.

The media reports indicate that the poor drainage system of Green Park Stadium prevented the game from taking place. In addition to the drainage issues, one of the stands is also in a dilapidated condition, making it unusable to full capacity, resulting in only half the tickets being sold.

In this regard, Rajeev Shukla, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Member of Parliament, stated, “What can we do? This stadium is 75 years old; it is both heritage and a permanent Test venue. When the stadium was built, there was no drainage system. We have no control over the weather; if it rains heavily, even stadiums with complete drainage systems will not be able to cope. We need to improve the drainage system,”.

Previously, India was unable to win a Test match against New Zealand due to poor light, despite all lights being functional during that match.
