Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Local Government Sindh, Khalid Haider Shah, chaired a review meeting focused on linking the salaries of local councils’ employees to the online SAP system. The meeting took place at the Local Government Department’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) Node and included key officials such as Project Director CLICK LG, Asif Jan Siddique, and Deputy Project Director Zainul Abedin Mirani.
During the briefing, Asif Jan Siddique highlighted that the integration of salaries and pensions for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and 21 towns in Karachi with the SAP system has been successfully completed. This development aims to eliminate any irregularities or malfunctions in salary payments, ensuring timely and accurate disbursements.
Siddique further explained that the proposed budgets for these towns, including KMC, are now reflected in the SAP system. He urged the remaining towns to expedite data sharing to facilitate a smooth transition to the new system. ACS Khalid Haider Shah praised the achievement, referring to the integration as a milestone for local governance.
He commended Siddique and his team for their efforts and directed towns delaying in data submission to comply promptly. He emphasized that collaborative efforts between the Sindh Government and the World Bank would significantly strengthen local councils and improve the city’s infrastructure. Additionally, Siddique updated the ACS on the ongoing door-to-door data collection process through the Urban Immovable Property Tax (UIPT) unit, noting that progress is being made daily, with plans for further initiatives to expedite this practice.
The introduction of the SAP system—an abbreviation for Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing—marks a pivotal step in modernizing the local government framework in Sindh, enhancing transparency, and fostering accountability.
