LAHORE – The differences between Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Khaider Khan regarding appointment of vice chancellors in universities have intensified, the media reports say.

The statements of both leaders also surfaced after the differences.

During an informal discussion with journalists in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that the Governor could reject any vice chancellor he had objections to, emphasizing that the Governor wanted to appoint his own vice chancellor.

She said that the issue revolved around the Punjab University, saying that the vice chancellors are appointed based on merit and transparency.

“I work on merit, and I don’t listen to recommendations, even from MNAs and MPAs. I work from 9 AM to midnight,” said the Punjab CM.

She said the police department is installing cameras in uniforms to eliminate bribery, adding that no officer would work without this uniform. She mentioned significant drug busts in colleges and universities, revealing that major gangs were trafficking drugs using private planes.

Additionally, she highlighted the impact of mobile clinics in rural areas, stating that hundreds of people benefit from them, and noted the successful launch of the farmer card and tractors, which saw millions apply immediately.

In response to Maryam Nawaz’s accusations, Governor Punjab Sardar Salim Haider Khan clarified that he has no conflict or quarrel regarding the vice chancellor appointments and desires good individuals in these positions.

He challenged anyone to name a person he has favored and stated that the names of vice chancellors need reconsideration, urging that they should be capable of uniting the youth.

The Governor further asserted that no one has dared to send him money and challenged anyone with proof to come forward, affirming his support regardless of whether the government succeeds or fails.
