KARACHI – As people are looking to access X, former Twitter, in Pakistan, without VPN, the ban remains in place and now the national telcom authority cleared air on Pakistan.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a statement clarifying status of social media platform X in Asian nation. PTA confirmed that X is still suspended and not available.

The recent development comes as PTA’s lawyer Ahsan Imam informed court that PTA retracted earlier notification regarding the suspension of X. This update was provided in response to Sindh High Court’s request for PTA’s position on X ban.

Sindh High Court directed the Ministry of Interior to lift its suspension order for microblogging platform within a week. The original ban on X was imposed in February after last polls.

The country blocked access to social media amid national security concerns amid election-related unrest. The ban followed protests over alleged vote manipulation by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party.

Pakistani authorities stand firm against blocking of social media in court submission, citing the platform’s failure to address misuse and its potential to destabilize country.

In previous development, the court ordered restoration of social media within week, but access remains sporadic, with users needing VPNs to connect.
