Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed cellular companies to conduct a joint survey following complaints about inadequate mobile phone and internet services at the Karachi City Court premises. The order came after a plea was filed by the president and secretary general of the Karachi Bar Association, highlighting the issues faced by court users.  The SHC, after an initial hearing of the complaint, has given the cellular companies two weeks to complete the survey and submit a report on the state of internet services at the court. The hearing has been adjourned for two weeks to allow for the submission of the survey findings.

Earlier, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) recently addressed a nationwide slowdown in internet services. According to the PTA, the degradation in service is primarily due to faults in two of the seven international submarine cables that connect Pakistan to the global network.

The PTA’s statement clarified that the AAE-1 cable is experiencing a 250G outage because of rerouting issues between Iran and Qatar, while the SMW 4 cable has been out of service due to faults near Karachi. The authority assured the public that efforts are underway to resolve these issues and restore internet speeds to normal levels.
