Friendship with Pakistan elevated to level of strategic partnership: Uzbekistan envoy

33rd Anniversary of Uzbekistan’s Republic Day

Uzbekistan and Pakistan are not only genuine partners but trusted friends also and brotherly cooperation between them has been elevated to a level of the strategic partnership.

These views were expressed by Ambassador of Uzbekistan, MrOybekArifUsmanov on Saturday at a reception he and MrsDilbarUsmanova hosted to celebrate the 33rd Anniversary of the Republic Day of Uzbekistan at Serena Hotel. Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion while former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen (R) EhsanulHaq was the guest of honour.

Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Ambassador AtadjanMovlamov, ambassadors, diplomats from the Central Asian countries, the Middle East, Russia, Africa, Europe, SAARC and ASEAN attended the event in good number and felicitated the Uzbek ambassador, his wife, the staff of the embassy and citizens of Uzbekistan on the auspicious day.

The national anthems of both the countries were also played and a cake was cut to reaffirm the Pak-Uzbek friendship.

Chief guest Jam Kamal Khan while congratulating the Ambassador on the Republic Day anniversary termed Uzbekistan a great friend of Pakistan with common history and heritage spanning over hundreds of years. He urged the business community of both the countries to further enhance trade and investment in each other’s country. Regional connectivity will surely boost these activities and bring huge dividends to the people of the three countries, he said.

Earlier in his welcome speech, Ambassador OybekArif termed Pakistan a close friend and business partner. Only in the last three years, President ShavkatMirziyoyev has held personal interaction with his Pakistani counterparts PM Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Army Staff Gen AsimMunir more than 9 times, he said. Our ministries of Defence are regularly holding staff talks on military cooperation, he said. This year, the first meeting of the Joint Working Commission was held in Islamabad. The ambassador went on to emphasize that both were not only cooperating with each other in trade and commerce but in the sphere of military training and holding multilateral exercises on combating terrorism as well.
