LAHORE – The future of Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam as the national team’s white-ball captain has become uncertain, following the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision not to appoint him for the upcoming Champions One Day Cup.
According to reports, the PCB is considering a change in leadership ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming tour of Australia. Speculations have surfaced that Mohammad Rizwan, the current vice-captain, is being considered as the likely replacement for Babar Azam.
Sources suggest that Rizwan, if appointed, may be handed the captaincy for all three formats of the game. The white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten, is reported to have had discussions with Babar Azam earlier this year, and following the T20 World Cup, regarding the leadership role and future direction of the team.
