LAHORE – Javed Iqbal Bajwa, brother of former Army Chief General retired Qamar Javed Bajwa has stepped down as Deputy Station Manager Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The employee of country’s national flag carrier resigned as his intermediate certificate turned out to be fake as Pakistan International Airlines conducted probe into the matter and Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore cleared the air on it.

Sources familiar with development said Javed Bajwa was initially resisting his resignation, but later resigned last month due to pressure from his family. He was part of PIA for over 45 years and even secured British nationality in late 80s.

The airline spokesman told media that Javed Iqbal Bajwa was served a show-cause notice to provide evidence of his legitimate credentials but he failed to produce any record, which led to his resignation. The case also highlighted issues with PIA’s handling of fraudulent degree cases and the uneven application of disciplinary measures.

The show caused notice served to Mr Bajwa said “It has been reported by Dy. General Manager Employees Record Information system (ERIS). PIA-Islamabad that you were advised to submit the clear copies of all your educational documents (which you submitted during service or at the time of appointment) vide an email dated 29.08.2023. As per instructions, you submitted the requisite documents vide an email dated 12.09.2023. Accordingly, the same were forwarded to the concerned Board for verification purpose. In response, your Intermediate Certificate, bearing Roll Number 25703 has been declared BOGUS by the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Lahore”.

It said the act constitutes misconduct under Clauses 54 & 32 of PIA Employees Disciplinary Policy (EDP) of 2019 Appendix-C, read with Industrial and Commercial Employment (Standing Orders) Ordinance. 1968, detailed hereunder:

Bajwa’s case surfaced as he was accused of getting favorable treatment, including financial benefits at time of resignation, which were unusual and raised question. It also raised concerns about employment practices in national flag carrier, which is facing massive losses.

Father-in-law of Gen (r) Bajwa’s son summoned by FIA for ‘probe into suspicious transactions’
