RAWALPINDI – Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan Army is national military and it has not political agenda.

Addressing a press conference, he said the Pakistan Army is neither opposed to any party. If anyone within the army promotes a specific political agenda for personal gain, the system of self-accountability comes into action, he highlighted.

Faiz Hameed Case

DG ISPR said a petition against Lieutenant General (Retd) Faiz Hameed regarding the Top City case was received through the Ministry of Defence.

On August 12, he said the army informed that Hameed had violated the Army Act, and multiple instances of violations of the Army Act had been observed even after his retirement, which led to the initiation of court-martial proceedings.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said army’s accountability process is transparent and it is based on evidence and not on allegations.

He said the Faiz Hameed case showed how the Pakistan Army took action against those involved in violations for personal and political interests. He said the military’s accountability system acts according to the law without discrimination.

He said that such impartial self-accountability encouraged other institutions to also take action if anyone used their position for personal or political purposes.

In response to a question, he stated that anyone involved in the Faiz Hameed case, regardless of their position or status, will face the music.

Operations against Terrorism

Over the past 8 months, 32,173 intelligence-based operations have been conducted against terrorists and their facilitators, he said, adding that  90 militants were killed during operations.

He added that 193 brave officers and soldiers were martyred during the said period, and the entire nation paid tribute to them.

The DG ISPR also noted that terrorist activities took place in Balochistan on the night of August 25 and 26. He said security forces killed 21 terrorists in the region during different operations.

He added that the army has reduced its defense expenditures, while contributing Rs100 billion in duties and taxes.

He previously addressed a press conference on August 5 when he had said there will be no change in stance, which was clearly communicated in May 7 press conference. Those responsible for the May 9 riots must be held accountable.

He had pointed out external entities using social media to spread anarchy and despair, investing in lobbying and creating negative narratives.

DG ISPR had said government’s writ was established in Gwadar, and certain groups are accused of trying to discredit institutions fighting terrorism and smuggling.

The Committee and its leadership are labeled as proxies of terrorist organizations, spreading chaos with external funding and narratives.
