KARACHI – A new spell of monsoon rains is set to make its mark across the country, as a new system of winds from the Bay of Bengal enters Pakistan.
The winds entering from the Bay of Bengal today and tomorrow could cause thunderstorms and rainfall in the upper regions, with a possibility of rain in Punjab, Balochistan, and interior Sindh as well.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a new advisory, warning of the risk of landslides in hilly areas.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), heavy rainfall is expected in Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, South and North Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan, with a risk of landslides in upper districts and the possibility of flooding and urban flooding in central plains.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued alerts to all district administrations in view of the weather conditions, and directed them to ensure the availability of both small and large machinery.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Asna has moved 370 kilometers away from Gwadar.
Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued the tenth alert for the tropical cyclone, which is currently in the northwestern Arabian Sea.
In light of this, fishermen in Balochistan have been advised not to venture into deep waters.
On the other hand, the fishermen in Sindh have been permitted to go to the sea while in Karachi, after the rain, the sewerage system and roads have been destroyed, with potholes appearing in various places.
The sewerage and rainwater still remain on the roads.
