RAWALPINDI – The Chief Police Officer (CPO) of Rawalpindi has sought 14-day time for recovery of missing Adiala Jail Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram.
A Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Division Bench led by Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf was hearing the case.
The bench remarked that the issue of the missing persons became quite alarming. The court observed that the current situation badly damaged the public trust.
Maimoona Riaz, the wife of missing Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail Muhammad Akram, appeared before the court and submitted that her husband was missing, and the relevant authorities be directed for his recovery.
The CPO Rawalpindi, SSP Investigation and the local police of Saddar Police Station also appeared before the court.
At the start of the hearing, the court asked the CPO Rawalpindi if there had been any clue regarding Muhammad Akram.
The CPO responded that the police were actively working for his recovery.
The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that uniformed and plain-clothed individuals had entered the petitioner’s home and harassed them. The officials also conducted a search of the official residence within Adiala Jail.
The court responded that the allegations being made are quite serious.
The court ordered the CPO Rawalpindi to ensure the protection of Muhammad Akram’s family and to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The court emphasized that everyone must play their role and be accountable to Allah Almighty, questioning how a person could go missing while others seem to be unaffected.
The CPO Rawalpindi asked the court for additional time to recover the Deputy Superintendent.
The court accepted his plea, gave him time and adjourned further hearing until September 10.
