Urs celebrations of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (a.r) start today in Lahore

LAHORE – The three-day Urs celebrations of great Sufi saint Hazrat Ali Bin Usman known as Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (a.r) started on Saturday.

It is 981st Urs of the great saint in Lahore.

Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar  inaugurated the Urs celebrations. Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yasin and other PML-N leaders also accompanied the deputy prime minister during inauguration of the Urs celebrations. Punjab Secretary Auqaf Dr. Tahir Raza Bukhari and other officials were also present there.

The strict security arrangements were made on the occasion.

The milk and other food items are brought to the shrine and its surroundings and are distributed among the faithful.  Mahafil-e-Sama [Qawalis] are also held at Sama Hall to pay tribute to the great Sufi saint.

Clerics and religious scholars deliver special sermons on the occasions and shed light on the great role of Hazrat Data Gunj Baksh (a.r). Thousands of men and women visit the shrine and express their love for the saint.

Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh, also known as Hazrat Ali Hajvery, was a prominent Sufi saint and scholar of the 11th century. He is renowned for his contributions to Islamic mysticism and is particularly revered in the South Asian region.

His seminal work, the “Kashf-ul-Mahjoob” (Revelation of the Veiled), is a significant text in Sufi literature.
