Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman criticized Nawaz Sharif for playing provincial politics concerning electricity tariffs, despite that he served thrice as the prime minister of the country.

He made these remarks while addressing a press conference at Mansoorah on Thursday.

Naeem reiterated JI’s call for national relief on electricity tariffs and announced a nationwide shutter-down strike scheduled for August 28.

He also revealed plans for a nationwide membership drive starting September 1, aimed at addressing electoral reforms, education, healthcare, and other critical issues.

The JI leader condemned the government’s actions against the youth under the guise of combating digital terrorism, warning that such measures could worsen existing problems. He opposed government efforts to limit freedom of speech and criticized the recent internet shutdowns that impact many, especially the youth who rely on digital platforms for their livelihoods.
