ISLAMABAD – Government College University Lahore (GCUL) has issued a dress code for female students.

Several Pakistani universities have dress codes in light of what is said to be balance of cultural and religious values along with professional academic environment. These dress codes emphasise modesty, which for women typically means wearing long skirts or trousers and tops with sleeves, often paired with a hijab or scarf.

A notification shared by GC Lahore introduced a new dress code banning female students from wearing jeans. Under the new regulations, students are not allowed to wear T-shirts and jeans.

It directed male students to wear dress shirts and pants, while all inter students must wear uniforms.

All students are mandated to wear university ID cards on campus and in classrooms. Those who do not comply with the dress code will face penalty.

Meanwhile, students opposed the move, arguing that such restrictions are uncommon in universities.

Some institutions may require specific uniforms, particularly in professional programs, to foster a sense of equality among students. Enforcement of these dress codes is generally managed through university guidelines and disciplinary measures, helping to ensure adherence to these standards and maintain a respectful campus atmosphere.
