ISLAMABAD – The federal government is likely to decrease the electricity prices for one month on account of fuel cost adjustment.

The Central Power Purchasing Authority (CPPA) has filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), seeking a decrease of 31 paisas per unit in power tariff.

CPPA has sought revision in prices on account of fuel cost adjustment for the month of July. Nepra will conduct hearing on August 28.

A day earlier, Punjab government announced a Rs14 per unit discount on electricity bills for August and September for consumers using up to 500 units.

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif made the announcement as government reallocates Rs45 billion from the developmental budget to provide relief to the people.

He made announcement alongside his daughter, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in a presser. PML-N leader also confirmed that this relief, which is set to benefit 2.5 crores consumers and amount to Rs50 billion, is aimed at 94pc of the country’s domestic electricity users.
