PESHAWAR – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls for Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday night and the next two days.

Per the synoptic situation, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate southern & central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over western/upper parts of the country.

Under these conditions, rains are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Balakot, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Nowshera, Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Peshawar, Karak, Kohat, Bannu, Malakand, Waziristan, Kurrum, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan on Friday night and the next two days with occasional gaps. Heavy falls are also likely during the period.

Widespread rains will likely generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams/hill torrents of Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera and Swabi from tonight till 17th August.

Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Nowshera and Peshawar. Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Peshawar’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 35-37°C on Saturday and 34-36°C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

Rainfall (mm): Dera Ismail Khan (City 61, Airport 47), Malam Jabba 15, Bannu 10, Saidu Sharif 04, Kakul, Parachinar 02, Bacha Khan Airport, Lower Dir 01
