Meeting was held at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat of the University of Karachi, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mehmood Iraqi, with representatives from various donor organizations. The meeting focused on discussing the increase in scholarships available at the university and other financial aid initiatives.
The representatives from the following organizations attended the meeting: Balochistan Education Endowment Fund, Al-Kooser USA, UK AHA Houston, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, and Ehsan Trust. Present at the meeting were also Professor Dr. Shaista Tabassum, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Professor Dr. Musarat Jahan Yusuf, Dean of the Faculty of Science; and Professor Dr. Zia Ismail Hanif Khan, In-Charge of the Students Financial Aid Office. General Manager Ehsan Trust Fayyaz-ur-Rehman highlighted that over 500 students from various departments at the University of Karachi have previously received interest-free loans from the Trust.
The Trust now has the capacity to provide financial support to over 500 students simultaneously. Evening students can also benefit from the Trust’s schemes, which offer easy loans at any stage of their education. The Trust is also able to provide interest-free financial assistance for the purchase of transport buses for campus students. Representative Kaim Mehdi shared that the Pakistani community in the USA is keen on supporting students as part of their efforts to enhance Pakistan’s educational sector.
Al-Kooser aims to improve the educational standards of students at the University of Karachi. Assistant Director Saadia Ashraf mentioned that Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal provides scholarships to talented students in public sector universities and is working on increasing the scholarship funds to support more students, including those in evening programs.
