LAHORE – Significant monsoon rains and gusty winds are predicted in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Thursday night and the next two days with occasional gaps.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea penetrate the upper/central parts of Pakistan. Strong currents from the Bay of Bengal will likely enter the upper parts tonight. A westerly wave will also likely enter the upper parts tonight.
Under these weather conditions, monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds are predicted in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara and Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday night.
On Friday and Saturday, more intermittent monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds are predicted in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mianwali, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Kasur, Okara, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Bhakkar, Khushab, Noorpur Thal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Widespread rains will likely generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeast Punjab, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan. Significant rains will likely cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad from tonight to Saturday. Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galliyat.
Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34-36°C on Friday and 33-35°C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, monsoon rains occurred in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Potohar Region, and northeast/ central Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan remained the hottest places in Punjab where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. The maximum temperature in Multan was recorded at 39°C.
In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 73 per cent.
