Sindh Energy Minister Syed NasirHussain Shah has announced plans to engage with the federal government to address the issue of additional taxes on electricity bills. During a meeting at the Energy Department office, Shah emphasized the need to exempt electricity bills from all types of taxes. If the imposition of these taxes is unavoidable, he suggested that they should be adjusted through alternative means. Secretary Energy  Mossadiq Ahmad Khan, CEO of STDC Saleem Sheikh, and Project Director of the Sindh Solar Energy Project MahfoozQazi were present at the meeting. Shah also communicated with K-Electric CEO MoonisAlvi via telephone, urging that no new taxes be added to electricity bills.

He highlighted that the public is already burdened by high electricity costs and cannot bear additional financial strain. Nasir Shah indicated that the Sindh government, under the direction of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, is committed to providing relief to consumers by seeking to remove all federal and provincial taxes from electricity bills. He urged K-Electric to avoid imposing any new taxes and assured that the Sindh government would offer full support if the utility faced any challenges in this regard. CEO K Electric MoonisAlvi assured minister Shah of the company’s cooperation and support for the Sindh government’s efforts to alleviate the financial burden on consumers.
