Commissioner, UNICEF reps discuss polio eradication strategies

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi met with Abdullah A. Fadil, UNICEF’s representative in Pakistan, and MilesiaKorkum, Polio Team Lead for UNICEF in Pakistan, to discuss strategies for improving polio eradication efforts. Dr. Shaukat Ali, UNICEF’s Polio Eradication Team Lead for Sindh, was also present at the meeting. The Commissioner praised UNICEF for its dedicated services in polio eradication and child education, expressing gratitude for their support and alignment with Pakistan’s national development goals. He lauded the collaborative efforts of UNICEF and global partners in combating polio, describing their cooperation as exemplary.

The Commissioner Naqvi outlined the Sindh government’s priorities and ongoing efforts in the fight against polio. He reported that preparations for the anti-polio campaign, starting August 15, are complete and expressed confidence in the campaign’s success. High-risk areas in Karachi have been identified for targeted vaccination, with special teams set to conduct door-to-door campaigns to ensure every child is vaccinated. The Commissioner appealed to the community and parents for their support in the vaccination drive, emphasizing that these coordinated efforts are expected to make significant strides toward making Pakistan polio-free.
