LAHORE – The federal government has decided to make significant changes to passport rules for the convenience of the general public.

Reports said the government has made an important decision regarding the issuance and renewal of passports. The rules have proposed allowing the citizens to apply for the passports in any city of Pakistan as previously they were restricted to apply for it only in their home city.

The summary of the proposed rule changes has been sent by the Ministry of Interior to the federal cabinet. Once the Cabinet approves, the new rules will be implemented immediately.

No City Restriction for Passport Application

If the rules are amended, citizens will be able to obtain the passport from any city of the country. Earlier, there was city restriction for submitting passport applications.

New Rules for Fee Deposit

With the changes to the passport rules, fees for all categories of passports can be paid at any branch of National Bank.

Latest Passport Fee in Pakistan

As of August 2024, the new fee for standard 36-page passport for 5 years now stands at Rs 4,500, while the urgent processing fee has increased from Rs5,000 to Rs7,500.

For 10-year validity period, the fee for 36-page passport has been increased to Rs 6,700 , with the urgent fee rising to Rs 11,200.

For 72-page passport for 5 years, people will have to pay Rs 8,200 for normal processing and Rs 13,500 for urgent processing. For 100-page passport valid for 10 years, the new fee surged to Rs12,400 for regular processing and Rs20,200 for urgent processing.
