Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather update; heavy rains predicted

PESHAWAR –Significant rains and gusty winds are predicted in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday night and during the weekend with occasional gaps.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan at lower tropospheric levels. They will likely penetrate central parts of the country from tomorrow. A westerly wave also prevails over upper parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, intermittent rains and gusty winds are predicted in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Batagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Malakand, Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, Charsadda, Peshawar, Kohat, Kirk, Bannu, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, Waziristan and Orakzai on Friday night and during the weekend. Heavy falls also likely at few places in Haripur, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat and Karak.

Widespread rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat and Karak from tonight to 11th August.
Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Mardan, Nowshera and Peshawar.
Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Peshawar’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 35-37°C on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, rain-wind/thundershowers occurred at isolated places in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

Chitral remained the hottest place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the maximum temperature was recorded at 37°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 31 per cent.

In Peshawar, maximum temperature was recorded at 36°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 68 per cent.
