Lahore, Punjab weather update; more monsoon rains expected

LAHORE – More monsoon rains are expected in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Wednesday night and Thursday with occasional gaps.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave prevails over the upper parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, monsoon rains are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Sahiwal, Khushab, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Noorpurthal on Wednesday night. Heavy falls may also occur in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahaudin, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Hafizabad.

On Thursday, more intermittent monsoon rains are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 33-35°C on Thursday and 34-36°C on Friday.

Meanwhile, monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in Lahore and northeast Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Rainfall (mm): Islamabad (Saidpur 44, ZP, Golra 36, Bokra 18, AP 01), Rawalpindi (Kacheri 29, Shamsabad 17, Chaklala AP 08), Sialkot (AP 22, City 10), Gujranwala 17, Gujrat 16, Murree 14, Sheikhupura, Kasur 11, Jhelum, Mangla 07, Chakwal 05, Narowal, Lahore (City) 02, Hafizabad 01

Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha and Attock remained the hottest places in Punjab where the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Maximum temperature in Multan was recorded at 38°C, and Sahiwal and Faisalabad at 37°C.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 36°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 76 per cent.
