Weather outlook of Lahore, Punjab; intermittent monsoon rains predicted

LAHORE – Intermittent monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds are predicted in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Sunday night and the next two days.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate most parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over northern parts of the country.

Under these conditions, Intermittent monsoon rains and gusty winds are predicted in Murree, Guliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujarat, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Leh Bhakkar, Mianwali, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur and Rahimyar Khan on Sunday night. Isolated heavy falls may also occur in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

On Monday and Tuesday, more intermittent monsoon rains and gusty winds are predicted in Murree, Guliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Leh Bhakkar, Mianwali, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Isolated heavy falls may also occur in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

Torrential rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Dera Ghazi Khan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum and Gujrat. Downpours may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Landslides may disrupt traffic in vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galliyat.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34-36°C on Monday and 32-34°C on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Okara remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Maximum temperature in Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Multan was recorded at 38°C.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 62 per cent.
