Waqar Mehdi, General Secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh chapter and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh, has dismissed recent criticisms by the opposition leader in the KMC concerning the city’s cleanliness during the ongoing rains. Mehdi labeled the remarks as baseless and an attempt to attract media attention through unwarranted criticism. Mehdi asserted that despite the significant rainfall, Karachi’s roads remain clean and traffic is moving smoothly. He criticized Jamaat-e-Islami leaders for their negativity and accused them of looking for faults in the city’s initiatives simply because their mayoral candidate was not elected.

He challenged Jamaat-e-Islami to remove their biased perspectives and observe that all major and minor drains in Karachi are functioning properly. He highlighted that Jamaat-e-Islami’s town chairmen are conspicuously absent during the rains, with the public reportedly searching for them.

He pointed out that the party has nine town chairmen in Karachi, none of whom have been visible during the current emergency. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh’s ministers, advisors, and special assistants are actively managing the rain emergency, Mehdi stated. He commended the efforts of KMC and Karachi Water &Sewerage Corporation staff for their diligence.
