Haniyeh assassination

The killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh is a significant loss for Palestinians, as he was a key figure leading the Islamic resistance movement in Palestine. This shocking development comes from a region already plagued by ongoing conflict. The assassination has been condemned by Pakistan and other allied countries.

This tragic event could shift the dynamics of the conflict, but it is crucial to halt further violence. Palestine has already endured immense suffering and the actions of Israel have been widely criticized. In this challenging time, Pakistan and its people stand in solidarity with Palestine. The international community should strongly condemn this act and Iran should respond more effectively to this aggression.

Put an end?

An atrocious act occurred in Naushahro Feroz, Sindh province. A girl sought divorce from her abusive husband and informed her family that she was unhappy with the circumstances. Her husband refused to grant her a divorce and after she approached for Khula, her father, maternal uncle and other relatives brutally tortured her and broke her legs. It is heartbreaking how a father could do this to his daughter, as daughters are often very close to their fathers.

After this incident, I am at a loss for words to describe this shameless act. Our daughters are not safe and do not have rights in their lives, which constitutes a significant human rights violation. Previously, in the same city, a father buried his newborn baby. What a disappointing society we are creating for women! Do our women have no right to life? They cannot breathe freely. Before marriage, their family dominates them, and after marriage, their husbands do. What can a woman do with her life?

Previously, a girl was attacked by her father and family in Toba Tek Singh. Such fathers are setting a terrible example in society and deserve strict punishment. How easy is it for them to kill a daughter? If they lack money or a job, they kill her. What is this? She is a human being, not a toy. Unfortunately, daughters are very easy targets. In our Islamic culture, the Almighty has given women respect and dignity, which these people will never understand. Stop this malicious behaviour towards daughters and women. Treat them as humans, not toys.

Deadly clashes in Kurram

Since last Wednesday, Kurram district has faced severe violence. The conflict began with an attack by takfiri terrorists, supported by the Pakistani Taliban, on the Shia-majority area of Parachinar. This violence has resulted in around 50 deaths and 184 injuries. Clashes between the Boshehra and Maleekhel tribes have also erupted, involving heavy weaponry like mortars and rocket launchers. Despite mediation efforts by a local jirga (tribal assembly), the conflict continues to escalate, affecting cities like Parachinar and Sadda.

The Shia community, unfortunately, is once again a primary target in these conflicts. The violence has caused significant disruptions, including road closures, shortage of essential supplies and overwhelmed hospitals. The provincial government has requested additional military support to manage the crisis. Immediate intervention and effective peace efforts are crucial to restore stability and protect the affected communities.

Brutal crime

Another horrific crime has emerged from Sindh, this time from Naushahro Feroz, a district in the province. Sayid Sobia Batool’s legs were chopped off by her father and uncles as punishment for seeking a divorce from her abusive husband.

Sobia had been suffering in an abusive marriage, with her husband neglecting to provide for her and their two children. Despite repeatedly informing her parents of her suffering, they dismissed her grievances and accused her of bringing dishonour to the family by seeking a divorce.

This horrific act has left Sobia with potentially lifelong disabilities, and she may never be able to walk again. This incident highlights the deep-rooted patriarchal attitudes and violence against women in Pakistan, where seeking a divorce is often seen as a disgraceful act. The battle to eradicate crimes against women is a long one, and it cannot be won unless we start fighting it with determination.

Zero Point route of electric bus

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned (CDA) towards the need for a new route for electric buses from Rawalpindi to Zero Point. There are many organizations located along this road, and general commuters face numerous problems due to the absence of a metro bus route and any other bus stops in this area. This lack of public transportation options causes significant inconvenience to the daily commuters who rely on public transport for their travel. Introducing a new electric bus route would not only alleviate these issues but also promote an eco-friendly mode of transportation, contributing to the reduction of pollution and traffic congestion in the city. I urge the concerned authorities to consider this request and take prompt action to address this pressing need.
