PESHAWAR – Widespread rains and gusty winds are expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper/central parts of Pakistan. They will likely affect southern parts from August 02 (evening/night). A westerly wave will likely affect northern parts of the country from tomorrow.
Under these weather conditions, intermittent rains with heavy to very heavy falls and gusty winds are expected in Chiral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Batgram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Khyber, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Laki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday night and the next two days.
Torrential rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bunner, Bannu, Kurrum, Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera and Swabi. Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Nowshera and Peshawar. Landslides may disrupt traffic in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the wet period.
Peshawar’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 35-37°C on Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, rain-wind/thundershowers occurred in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

Bannu remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. The maximum temperature in Dera Ismail Khan was recorded at 37°C.
In Peshawar, maximum temperature was recorded at 36°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 78 per cent.
