Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has set ambitious goals to enhance the education sector in the province. During a meeting in Karachi on Monday, Shah instructed the department to boost school enrollment to 6 million students and to reopen 2,170 schools under a new placement plan. Additionally, he called for the removal of biometrics from 1,700 teachers currently assigned to non-viable schools.
The meeting, which was attended by key officials including Secretary School Education Sindh Zahid Ali Abbasi and Special Secretary Education Syed Junaid Ahmed, focused on improving the teacher-to-student ratio and increasing school enrollment.
The Minister was informed that over 7,500 schools in Sindh have reopened due to recent teacher recruitments, with plans to open 2,170 more schools as part of the placement strategy. Shah highlighted the success of recruiting 60,000 teachers and reopening 10,000 schools as significant achievements of the Pakistan People’s Party’s government.
He emphasized the need for a placement plan that ensures schools remain operational despite teacher retirements or other changes. The next phase of the placement plan will address teacher-to-student ratios and include an enrollment drive to achieve the 6 million student target. Shah also directed the launch of a campaign to address complaints related to biometric registration of teachers and warned of departmental action against non-compliant employees.
